Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November each year. The holiday began as a harvest festival, giving thanks for the blessings of the past year.
Early settlers, known as Pilgrims, held the first Thanksgiving in 1621 after a successful harvest. They shared a feast with the Wampanoag Native Americans who had helped them survive their first winter in the New World.
Today, families gather together to enjoy a traditional meal that usually includes roast turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving is also a time to reflect on what we are grateful for.
